Many training opportunities are available from the high school league and our association.
An online rules meeting must be attended before each season. The purpose of the meeting is to review the rules and provide clarification. Information will be emailed about the meeting at the beginning of each season.
There are a handful of other items to complete before you can become a judge. These items are all outlined on the Arbiter's website, including passing an online rules test, concussion training, and high school training clinics. These items are necessary steps to help you have a successful judging season.
How do I get started?
MGGOA has a mentor program for new judges. We will pair you with a veteran official to ensure you are getting the necessary training you need. If this is your first year, we suggest focusing on two events.
We will schedule practice meets and pair you with a mentor. Each judge uses different techniques to score a routine; seeing a variety of options will help you develop what works best for you.
You should arrive at your practice meet as if you were judging (score sheets, name badge, rule book, etc.).
At the meet, you will sit next to the judge on the events you choose.
Once you are comfortable with two events, you will be assigned meets. This timeframe is different for each judge.
